Jesus loves all / is for all

There seems to be a misconception about the "left's" view on the Christian, though many do claim themselves christian.

The first claim is that "we hate".

The second claim is that "we judge".

To this I will say I assure you a true christian does not hate and we care more than we are given credit for, for the helpless; the forsaken.

We wouldn't be practicing Christians if we did not proclaim God's word.  We were told by Jesus himself to proclaim the good news!  Along with the good news we are asked to see sin for what is really is.  Unfortunately this is often seen as "judgement".

Therein this misconception lies truth.  Truth that a true Christian knows that God is for everyone. Yes everyone!

But that does not mean He is for the sin that everyone commits.  On the contrary, he begs your obedience.  Keep in mind that Jesus always upheld His Father's laws.

How hurtful it must be to Him that we have gotten complacent with our obedience to Him, Even more so that we proclaim that which is not truth about certain acts of sin..........as is written in the bible, a book in which Christians believe is God's words, and God's laws;  A instruction book for life and a blessed life at that.

Nevertheless, He is for you.  Jesus is not against anyone because of their sin; in fact he is all the more reaching out to you to understand His great love for you ......and His desire for your obedience.

Whoever you are, whatever your sin, and whatever you read as sin in the bible, please know that the battle does not lie in others that you claim judge you;  The real battle is with God!

It should never be a surprise to anyone that a christian stands by and is convicted by the bible.

No, we are not haters.  We come before the throne ourselves to ask for forgiveness for our shortcomings.  Many things God asks of us are failed, and it doesn't matter what things.

The good news is that Jesus holds his hand out and ask you to follow Him and to walk in righteousness.  He is your help, your joy, your strength and your path,

On the path with him, we find ourselves less in battle with Him and more willing and longing to please Him.  That is a walk to christian maturity.

May you walk in the light as He is in the light!

Luke 5
27 After this, Jesus went out and saw a tax collector by the name of Levi sitting at his tax booth. “Follow me,” Jesus said to him, 28 and Levi got up, left everything and followed him.
29 Then Levi held a great banquet for Jesus at his house, and a large crowd of tax collectors and others were eating with them. 30 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law who belonged to their sect complained to his disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”
31 Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”

Abortion perspectives

Abortion perspectives:

Your thoughts about abortion may be that it may be best to abort the baby if the baby may be abused and/or have a terrible life due to being placed in a foster home, etc.

My thoughts:  Would you say that someone that suffers depression should have the right to choose to take her own life?  Wouldn't that also be pro-choice?

How many people in foster homes or those that come from a hard family life has done great things and have been blessed?  Do we really know?  Did you know that Steve Jobs was a foster kid?

Hands down, I believe that it is wrong and that we are much smarter these days but that in the name of human rights, it is allowed to be voted on.

David of the bible's thoughts:  …Psalm 139-13For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother's womb. 14I will give thanks to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. 15My frame was not hidden from You, When I was made in secret, And skillfully wrought in the depths of the earth;…

God's thoughts:  My creation! Thou shalt not kill!

I am only calling on you who may read this to see these perspectives and give it a lot of thought.  I am condemning no one.  Perhaps my perspective is wrong, but what if it is your perspective that is wrong?
I try to align mine up with a God that I very much believe in.  He is my creator.  He gave us a Redeemer!

And...His grace abounds!

Stay tuned for more perspectives!

She is, by Geri L. Phillips

She Is

She came into my life as a mother in law. She soon became a friend.

 She then became someone that through her insight fed me words of wisdom.

She became to me someone that I liked to be around and hear the stories of her life.

She became someone that for a short time I was a caretaker for.

 Even during this time she made me laugh and told me stories and was my friend;

She became someone that just her sheer presence made me feel comfortable and right.

 As she became all these things to me I fell so much in love with that beautiful soul.

 Along with all of what she became, She is to me someone that I admire and love so much.

 I have been so blessed because she became and because she is exactly the soul that God intended!

Rest in peace my blue eyed angel

Being a Christian

Someone once said that being a Christian is too hard. Many become discouraged because of our human fallacies. The bible is full of things that we are not to do.

Jesus Himself sternly warns us to avoid sin.

But how do you do it when everything is pulling you towards sin?

First of all it is important to know that we are all sinners with a variety of sins. We are all depraved.

If we are Christians we should take the bible seriously. We should not try to change it to our liking to justify our sins.

What we need to do is repent on a daily basis. We need to ask Him to help us avoid sin.

Test this and you will see how He moves to change circumstances, plans or whatever might cause you to knowingly sin. I know this to be true.

The Lord's prayer is a perfect prayer to begin your day with.  Scripture reads that His grace is sufficient in all circumstances.

While we ARE called to obedience it is a work in progress.

Nothing worthwhile comes easy. But the deeper your relationship with the Lord, the more joy you have, the more determined you become to please Him; the One that gave His life for His beloved.

So do not be discouraged on your journey instead deepen your relationship with Him.

If you have not asked Jesus to reveal Himself to you then i encourage you to do so out of my love for you. He satisfies a hungry heart and His mercies are new every morning!

In His love and mine!

How important is scripture to Jesus?

Heaven and earth may disappear. But I promise you that not even a full stop or comma will ever disappear from the Law. Everything written in it must happen. If you reject even the least important command in the Law and teach others to do the same, you will be the least important person in the kingdom of heaven. But if you obey and teach others its commands, you will have an important place in the kingdom. (Matthew 5:18, 19 CEVUK00)

Seems as though it was very important to Him!  Do not try to dismiss the word of god. Do not be taken in by progressiveness.

Lukewarm

I know everything you have done, and you are not cold or hot. I wish you were either one or the other. But since you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spit you out of my mouth. (Revelation 3:15, 16 CEVUK00)

The Holy Bible - Gods word incarnate

I am so tired and disheartened sometimes to see the ideologies of this new age.

I just read an article about how "Progressive Christians" think that the readings in the bible cannot be taken seriously because it was written by fallible men and not the hand of God.

Seriously?

I encourage anyone that listens to this nonsense to do a whole lot of soul searching and praying about this before you jump on this progressive band wagon.

The Holy Bible is holy in that God gave men the ability, prophecy and gift to proclaim His good name.

He calls all sinners to repent and to accept Jesus as their personal Savior.  He does call us to obedience.

We, as Christians need to stand firm on God's word and should not stand for those that would interpret the bible to their liking.

It is what it says!  Nothing more.  Nothing less.

You either believe it or you don't.  There is no in between.

As Christians and fellow sinners, we are called not to condemn, but to be the light, the hands and feet of the Lord.

A Kiss on the Cheek, by Geri L. Phillips

I saw a friend one day that I haven’t seen in a while. I greeted him with a hug and one big smile. He kissed me on the cheek, in a very gentle way, Somehow this friendly kiss really made my day. I thought about his gentle kiss and appreciated the love. There was nothing sexual about it, just a nice gift from above. I saw my best girlfriend and I told her how much I care And that I appreciate her true friendship and how she’s always there. A kiss I did not give her, a hug would say it clearly, That you matter to me my friend and that I love you dearly. On the telephone with my brother we spoke about our dad. He told me that one day, my daddy was real sad. My brother had kissed his small child while my daddy had watched it all, Then with a tear in his eye, my daddy said to him “I wished I had more often kissed you all.” My brother told him that it wasn’t too late, that he could start today. Now my daddy greets each of us with a kiss and we know what he’s trying to say. I grabbed my mom one day while she was busy in her usual way, I kissed her on the cheek and said momma thank you for everything, and she said “Oh, it’s okay”. She seemed to pull me back towards her as I pulled away. Thank you for that show of love is what she seemed to say. Sitting with my daddy, who then had 82 years of life, I noticed that he seemed to be a little bit in strife. The words he shared with me indicated that he was in a spiritual bind, So I got up, kissed him on the cheek and embraced him from behind. I said Daddy you are good and he agreed that he was blessed. He has a wonderful family given to him by God, with conviction he confessed. As I looked into his eyes, I noticed that they began to be filled, With tears of love and joy from a moment of gentleness that could never be killed. There are some people that I think about, I wish I would have kissed more, Like my grandma in heaven that I can not embrace anymore. So show your love I say to you and with conviction I do say, For gentle moments do not come unless they are given away. Written by Geri Lynn Phillips September 12, 1999

Under the Sun by Geri Phillips (a poem nerd)

My inspiration for this poem was The Book of Ecclesiastics

In my life I have loved, laughed and cried.
I have partied with drink; and I ran with the crowd yet,
they did not fill me and so I sighed.

Under the sun did I live and dwell;
Under the sun; I am here to tell.

There were times of mourning; there were times that I dared to stray;
There were times of excitement but that too just faded away,

Under the sun in this worldly place;
Under the sun; I ran the race.

In an empty place therein my life I knelt to pray;
In that moment came joy unlike that of any other day.

More and more did I draw from His grace and my emptiness was filled.
A faith I had all along grew, as was God's will.

And even nowadays as somedays are hard and I get a bit down,
I am reminded that I am God's daughter. I am heaven bound.

I look up and out on the horizon and  find joy and love; peace and forgiveness. Yes I look to the One.
And I will always be reminded look above and never focus my attention under the Sun.

My Catholic Faith

I am a cradle Catholic. Therefore I grew up doing all the so misunderstood things that other Christians question. When i grew up i didn't think too much about it until i began going through trials and turning to God for strength. As my relationship with the Lord grew i started asking questions myself. I now know a lot more about my catholic Christianity yet have more to learn.
Scott Hahn is a wonderful resource for learning more about the faith.

I have found that when you go to mass
You are actually closer to heaven on earth than you can get. Everything about the mass celebration comes from scripture, from the old testament and the new. In celebration of the new covenant of our Lord Jesus Christ we Catholics believe that we are indeed partaking in what Jesus had intended and that we are taking the body and blood that is of Jesus and that of God's new covenant. In the old testament when God called for a lamb's sacrifice, He called for the lamb to be eaten. Likewise Jesus called the same of His sacrifice.

"Then Jesus said to them: I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. And so, Jesus said to them: Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you will not have life in you." (John 6:35, 54 CPDV)
Mass is beautiful!

I. Grace Is Not Withheld Because of Demerit- Lewis Sperry Chafer

I. Grace Is Not Withheld Because of Demerit, by Lewis Sperry Chafer

This fact about grace is more evident, perhaps, than any other. It is the sense of demerit more than anything else which impels a soul to cry out for the kindness and benefits of grace. So, also, grace finds its greatest triumph and glory in the sphere of human helplessness. Grace ceases to be grace if God is compelled to withdraw it in the presence of human failure and sin. In fact, grace cannot be exercised where there is the slightest degree of human merit to be recognized. On the other hand the issue of human sin must be disposed of forever. Christ the Lamb of God, having taken away the sin of the world, has by His cross forever disposed of the condemnation of sin. He has by the cross created an entirely new relation between God and man. Consequently, men are now either accepting or rejecting Christ who has borne their sins. "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God" (John 3:18). There is no middle ground. All questions of demerit have been banished. Thus God is righteously free to exercise grace in every case. Salvation is by grace alone.

written by Geri L. Phillips

There She Stood, There She Lay

There she stood, combing her long and shiny silver hair. During the day she wore it up with at least ten bobby pins and each night she would let it down again. I loved seeing Grandma with her hair down! She wore a long cotton nightgown that had little blue flowers on it. I hid behind the door to see what she would do next. She reached into her drawer and grabbed a container of facial creme and rubbed it all over her face. I had wondered if this is why she had so few wrinkles. She slowly reached down to the lotion dispenser and rubbed the sweet smelling lotion on her arms and hands. To this day, when I smell the fruity scent of Jergan’s lotion, I think of Grandma.

Nearly complete with her nightly ritual, she knelt down on the side of her bed and began praying. I listened closely and found that she was saying some of the prayers in another language. Of course I had to assume it was spoken in Italian.

Grandma had a dimpled smile for every customer that walked into her “West End Grocery” store, as well as for every stranger she ever met.

When I visited Grandma at the store, she always had something for me. She would reach inside the pocket of her hand made apron and give me a piece of Juicy Fruit gum.

I loved Grandma enormously and she was my closest companion Often she and I would be alone in her big and quiet house. We sat together and watched “The Carol Burnett Show” on television. I enjoyed listening to her laugh and watching her sparkling eyes water as she became tickled with Carol Burnett’s comedy. Many times I watched her make her simply designed dresses on the kitchen table, then I cheered and clapped when she had completed one. I often watched her pray on her knees every night and sometimes I knelt right beside her. When I was sick I used to ask her to pray for me. Once, I even asked her to pray for my kitty cat, Fluffy, who was sick.

On Sunday mornings I would hear Grandma in the kitchen. I knew it was Grandma because her house shoes made a whimsical noise while she shuffled around preparing to go to church. Grandma loved going to church. She really loved singing the hymns.

When I found out that Grandma could not read, I made a promise that I would teach her. We started out with small words such as “that” and “the”. After a long morning of her giggling at me for trying to teach her, I soon gave up and began to laugh with her.

Once when my cousins were visiting, Grandma became very sick. I felt so sorry for her that I made all of the kids stop running around the house and I stopped them from being loud. I asked my cousins to come with me. I wanted us to pray for her. One by one, they followed me into her darkened room and knelt down beside her bed. We prayed the Lord’s Prayer and asked Jesus to make her all better while she lay sleeping. I do not think that she ever knew. The next morning I heard her shuffling around in her house shoes. She was up making breakfast and truly, she was all better!

As time passed and things changed, we moved. I did not spend as much time with her as I would have liked. I graduated high school and began working. Soon, Grandma became very sick. Suffering with Diabetes throughout the years, she had now other complications. She was now bedridden.

There she lay helpless, in a bed at my parent’s house. Now that I was older, I could not share my hopes, dreams and maturity with her. Although I tried. She did not understand me and sometimes she did not even know me. It pained me a great deal.

She is gone. To this day, I still miss her very much. I think that her body could not handle anymore here on earth, so she went to heaven where she could continue to watch and guide us through the tragedies in our lives by the faith she left with us. I wonder if she ever knew how much I loved and appreciated her. This I know, she loved me unconditionally and when I see her again I am going to say, “Thank you Grandma for filling my childhood with a lot of love.”

I thank God for my wonderful Grandma!

Weathering the storm poem

(I'm not sure who the author is)

Weathering the Storm

Posted January 6th, 2010 by poetmaster____

A Red Poppy basking in the radiant sun

Sees deer and rabbits hastily run;

They sense a storm in the breeze

And race for shelter under mighty Oak trees.

Sure enough the clouds do burst

And human complexions look their worst;

The anger of the clouds in the skies

Is reflected in the mood in their eyes,

And sighs are breathed once again

As Man and animal feel the force of the rain.

Spare a thought for that Poppy in the field

No roof or umbrella gives it a shield,

And yet, there it so boldly remains

Facing the full fury of summer’s rains.

Even so, it still stays intact –

Bowed, but unbroken, from that tempestuous act.

A hidden strength belies what is seen

On the surface of this pitiful scene.

Wonder you may, if it will raise

Its lovely head for more summer days;

Will it regain its former glory,

And live to tell of a success story?

With humankind it’s much the same –

We face ferocious storms, never tame.

Economic hardships and failing health

Overtake many, with lion-like stealth.

We stand our ground, unable to flee –

Shaken to the root by adversity,

And yet, although we bend, we do not break,

We continue faithful, for the Lord's sake.

Daily our hope, spurs us on,

Making our courage, ever strong;

No fretful frowns wrinkle a forehead,

Our faith gives the foot, a confidant tread.

It’s practically a miracle to see

Someone standing strong, with tenacity;

Although he may appear weak and frail

A surprising strength tells the tale.

Faith grows stronger, all the more

As each onslaught we so endure,

And our hope grows brighter, each day,

As skies turn blue, that once were grey.

In time, like that Poppy after the storm,

We lift our faces, and hearts feel warm;

Stronger and dignified, proudly standing tall

We’re a beacon of bravery to one and to all.

"The Appointment in Samarra" (A story to ponder)

"The Appointment in Samarra"

(as retold by W. Somerset Maugham [1933])

The speaker is Death

There was a merchant in Bagdad who sent his servant to market to buy provisions and in a little while the servant came back, white and trembling, and said, Master, just now when I was in the marketplace I was jostled by a woman in the crowd and when I turned I saw it was Death that jostled me. She looked at me and made a threatening gesture, now, lend me your horse, and I will ride away from this city and avoid my fate. I will go to Samarra and there Death will not find me. The merchant lent him his horse, and the servant mounted it, and he dug his spurs in its flanks and as fast as the horse could gallop he went. Then the merchant went down to the marketplace and he saw me standing in the crowd and he came to me and said, Why did you make a threating getsture to my servant when you saw him this morning? That was not a threatening gesture, I said, it was only a start of surprise. I was astonished to see him in Bagdad, for I had an appointment with him tonight in Samarra.

Open my eyes
by Geri L. Phillips

Father God, I pray to thee,
Please open mine eyes to see;

Every time I pass you up;
I miss the opportunity for you to fill my cup;

Every morning that I do not fit You in,
it makes You mourn for the time not spent;

Your beloved needs you  each and every day;
walking beside me, and beside me to stay.

Let me then open my heart;
Right now is a good time to start.

Let me love You as you have loved  me,
and forever beside me You will be.

Lead me back to that beautiful time when we spent our mornings together,
Lead me Lord, and lead me forever!

I love you dear Lord, and in Jesus' name I pray;
ForYou in my mind and my heart each night and each day.

With the Lord of my life may I not pass up any precious time;
For with You my path is made clear and Your love is sublime!

Thank You Lord!

A Sip of Grace

a sip of grace

You know its amazing,

How we could love the world

And love the girl

Yet hate the one who formed the world

And when the world fell

He took the scars for your girl. And you.

Its amazing that,

We can take pride in all theories and intelligences

Yet find it hard to believe

That a being with understanding beyond our human comprehension can create

Intelligently create

Each thing to work systematically

Specifically in its own order…

He just spoke, and it was, and it is, and it will be because He says so

With just one word.

It takes man too long to form arms against the enemy to protect us

But we have a defense that doesn’t allow any to prosper

Weapons are formed but don’t prosper,

So its amazing that we fail to trust the

True and living, amor,

Love, Word, God, Adonai.

Died for the victory of many who had already lost.

All had already lost their place in Eden.

The presence of God is our designed habitat.

Can the fish dwell out of water?

Can you dwell out of living water?

I was thirsty,

I tired to draw out of the well on my own strength.

But I was weak and weary.

No tin bucket could I carry, but the Maker

Creator of drink, poured a cup and offered me drink.

“This is my blood…which was shed for many.”

FOR YOU, Geri, I CARRY THE CROSS

I know the hurts you carry, My beloved;

Come, let Me carry them for you.

Oh, how heavy is the cross I bear

upon the road to Calvary;

My flesh is torn from the scourging

and I am weakened by the beating

-- that I took for you.

I know the hurts you carry, My beloved;

Come, let Me carry them for you.

I struggle to see the road ahead of Me

but My Blood drips from the crown of thorns

into My eyes, and I cannot wipe them

for I am bound up by the load

-- that I took from you.

I know the hurts you carry, My beloved;

Come, let Me carry them for you.

The crossbeam grinds into My wounded shoulder

and I feel the pain in all the tears of My flesh;

so it is difficult to remain aware that you are here,

but I remember, I remember that I carry the load

-- that I took from you.

I know the hurts you carry, My beloved;

Come, let Me carry them for you.

The biggest pain that I feel,

the pain that pierces deep into My heart,

is the realization that I have done all this for you,

and still, you insist on carrying the load

-- that I took from you.

I know the hurts you carry, My beloved;

Come, let Me carry them for you.

Please, let Me carry them for you.

Yes, let Me carry them for you.
